"THE PLAYBOOK"
Content Creation
Old Dominion University Sports commissioned a variety of graphic design projects, including schedules, team spotlights, and promotional materials for its athletic programs. As a graphic design intern with the ODU Sports and Athletics Department, I worked closely with the Athletic Marketing team to create dynamic visuals for multiple sports teams. My responsibilities included designing social media assets, event posters, and other promotional content to support the university's branding and fan engagement efforts.

CHALLENGE
I was responsible for creating graphic designs that not only adhered to the cohesive and established university branding guidelines but also maintained a distinct, creative edge to ensure each piece stood out on its own. This often involved balancing consistency with innovation, all while working under tight deadlines and managing quick turnaround times. Whether designing promotional materials, social media assets, or event graphics, my goal was to produce visuals that were both aligned with the overall brand and impactful in capturing the attention of the intended audience.

I was tasked with designing a variety of print materials for the department, including schedules, flyers, and promotional assets. Despite the rise of digital media, print still plays a key role in engaging audiences, particularly in a university setting. Each design balanced strong visuals and clear messaging, aligned with the university’s branding guidelines, and was created to effectively promote events and communicate important information—while meeting tight deadlines and ensuring high-quality, print-ready materials.
DIGITAL
In addition to designing print materials, I was also responsible for creating digital content for social media and other virtual platforms managed by the university. This involved developing engaging graphics, banners, and promotional assets specifically designed for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the university's website. Each piece had to be optimized for the unique format and audience of each platform, while remaining consistent with the university's established branding. I worked closely with the marketing team to produce content that enhanced fan engagement, promoted events, and highlighted key moments in the athletic calendar, ensuring a cohesive visual identity across both print and digital media.

“Vaughn worked for me as a Graphic Design and Video Intern while I was the Director of Social Media at Old Dominion University. Vaughn showed great professionalism while he worked in office and great initiative. Vaughn learned how to shoot video on the fly, as we needed more videographers. He took this challenge head on and become a very capable member of our video team. Vaughn really stood out as a designer. Vaughn was able to design off detailed creative briefs and off of one or two simple directions. He always created crisp, clean, and consistent graphics. Vaughn was someone we could rely on to not only get the job done but go above and beyond our expectations. One of his graphics that was posted to the main ODUSports channel received over 100% the normal interactions and impressions.”
I would absolutely recommend Vaughn to anyone looking for a designer.
